What did the family members say?
Speaking to The Indian Express, a cousin of Qureshi and Chand claimed that the two had called home between 2 am and 4 am on June 7 when they were being allegedly assaulted. According to him, one of Qureshi’s calls lasted 47 minutes, during which he could be heard screaming for help, pleading not to attack him, and asking for water.
“Qureshi was a helper. He called and kept the phone in his pocket. He was screaming that his arms and legs were broken. He was pleading – ‘Bhaiya give me a sip of water, don’t beat me, just give me water.’ We also heard some people asking him, ‘Where have you brought him from… we won’t leave you.’”
“Earlier, Chand called and told us that the vehicle was stopped and they were attacked. Then someone snatched his phone… We did not call the police at that time because we did not think the matter would go to this extent. We kept calling Chand’s number but he did not pick up. Finally, around 5 am, a police officer picked up and said he was dead. We had no idea what they had gone for; all we knew was that Chand was a driver,” he claimed.
On the claims of the cousin of the deceased, Additional Superintendent of Police Rathore said, “We do not have any such information so far. We will check the call detail records to find out who all the victims talked to and record their statements. We will also record the statements of the family members.” Till the time of writing the news, no FIR has been registered in this case.
