Gujarat: There has been a lot of loss of life and property due to storm and unseasonal rain in Gujarat on Sunday. In many areas, about 20 people died due to lightning and crops were destroyed. According to the State Emergency Operation Center (SEOC), about 40 animals have also died due to the rains.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah expressed condolences to the families of the victims and said that the local administration is engaged in relief work. I express my deepest condolences for the irreparable loss to those who lost their loved ones in this disaster. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), rainfall is expected to reduce on Monday, while it remains likely to rain over parts of South Rajasthan, Gujarat and Saurashtra districts.
According to data from the State Emergency Operation Center (SEOC), rainfall was recorded in 234 out of 252 talukas of Gujarat on Sunday. Districts like Surat, Surendranagar, Kheda, Tapi, Bharuch and Amreli witnessed particularly heavy rainfall, with rainfall ranging from 50 to 117 mm in just 16 hours.
IMD said that a cyclonic storm is looming over the north-east Arabian Sea, the effect of which can be seen in Saurashtra and Kutch regions.
Regarding this, IMD had also issued a warning on Sunday and also instructed everyone to stay safe.
