The Ministry of Commerce and Industry is considering a scheme to promote better efficient cooling technology. Under this, low power consumption ACs will be manufactured. Although its price will initially be higher than traditional AC, but the government will help to compensate for it.
On the condition of anonymity, an official said that DPIIT will focus on supply and try to create a manufacturing ecosystem of highly efficient cooling devices. Whereas Bureau of Efficiency will work towards increasing demand and spreading awareness among customers.
At present the department is in the initial stages of this project and is in talks with different partners.
DPIIT organized workshop
DPIIT had also organized an industry workshop on Monday, which was described as a step towards climate adaptation. Organized in partnership with the World Bank and with support from the Ministry of Environment and Bureau of Energy Efficiency, the workshop was named ‘Alleviating Heat stress by Enhancing production of Affordable Cooling Devices’. According to a press release issued in this regard, ‘This is a big step towards sustainable and affordable cooling solutions aimed at protecting India against the increasing heat wave. This is the first industry-led workshop to look at cooling as a key climate adaptation issue.’
Government is already giving PLI on AC
Let us tell you that the government is already giving PLI (Production Linked Incentive) on ACs. In this, a benefit of up to Rs 6,238 crore is being given in 14 PLI schemes including AC and LED lights.
Altogether 42 applicants have shown interest in all these PLI schemes. He has committed a total investment of Rs 4,614 crore. 26 out of 42 are related to air conditioner manufacturing.
