Alaska Airlines ‘ Boeing 737-9 Max aircraft had to make an emergency landing on Saturday (January 6) when one of its doors opened in the air just minutes after takeoff. Videos taken by passengers show that the exit gate in the middle of the cabin was completely separated from the plane.
What did Alaska Airlines say?
“AS1282 from Portland to Ontario, CA experienced an incident this evening soon after departure. The aircraft landed safely back at Portland International Airport with 171 guests and 6 crew members. We are investigating what happened and will share more as it becomes available.” Alaska Airlines said in a post on Twitter.
NTSB is investigating the incident.
The US National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) said in a post on X that it is investigating an incident involving Alaska Airlines Flight 1282.
Real-time aircraft movement monitor Flightradar24 said in a social media post that the plane reached a maximum altitude of 16,325 feet before it was safely diverted back to Portland.
According to NDTV, Flightradar24 said, “The Boeing 737 Max involved in today’s incident was delivered to Alaska Airlines on October 1, 2023, and entered commercial service on November 11, 2023; it has flown only 145 flights since then .”
