Uttarakhand Tunnel Rescue Operation: 41 workers trapped in the Silkyara Tunnel of Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand are being rescued one by one. On Tuesday, 27 November, the 17th day after the start of the rescue operation, the workers were taken out one by one in the evening.
It took about 3-5 minutes to evacuate each worker. First drilling was done manually, then the pipe was laid and then the workers were taken out through it.
Workers were trapped inside for the last 17 days after a part of the tunnel under construction on Uttarakhand Chardham Marg collapsed on November 12.
To rescue the workers, a path was made through the debris in the tunnel using 800 mm diameter steel pipes. Then with the help of wheeled stretchers, the workers were taken out one by one through pipes.
After testing the workers on the spot, they are being taken to the hospital with the help of an ambulance. After coming out, a 41-bed hospital has been prepared in the Community Health Center of Chinyalisaur to take care of the stranded workers.
Where are the workers trapped in the tunnel from?
The workers trapped inside this tunnel of Uttarkashi have come from different states in search of livelihood. These include fifteen workers from Jharkhand, eight from Uttar Pradesh, five each from Odisha and Bihar, three from West Bengal, two each from Uttarakhand and Assam and one from Himachal Pradesh.
Let us tell you that located about 30 km from Uttarkashi and a seven-hour drive from Dehradun, Silkyara Tunnel is an integral part of the Central Government’s Char Dham All Weather Road Project. With its help, preparations are being made to increase connectivity to the Hindu pilgrimage sites of Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri and Yamunotri.
