At least two to three youths kidnapped a 64-year-old widow, gang-raped her and beat her brutally in Trombay, north-eastern Mumbai. Police gave this information on Tuesday (December 19). According to the complaint lodged by the victim’s daughter, her mother had gone to worship at the nearby Khandoba temple in Nehru Nagar area of Kurla on Monday night.
It is being told that at least 3 people chased her from there and kidnapped her and took her to a secluded place near Thane Creek in Trombay, where they raped her.
Serious injury marks on the body
The assailants repeatedly hit the survivor with a hammer on her face, head, genitals and other body parts, due to which she fell down and became unconscious in the deserted bay area. She had no clothes on her body.
According to the daughter’s complaint, the three criminals took advantage of the darkness and ran away, believing her to be dead.
How did the incident come to light?
Around 5 am on Tuesday, a local woman saw the elderly victim without clothes, bleeding and pleading for help.
“The kind lady first gave him a gown to wear. She informed the police, who reached the spot,” his crying daughter said on Tuesday.
An official from Trombay police station said they immediately took the victim to BMC’s Rajawadi Hospital in Ghatkopar and she would undergo a CT scan due to her head injuries.
A young man arrested
The officer said that a youth has been detained and his associates are being interrogated. The woman lives with her daughter and 9-year-old granddaughter. She earns her living by selling fish and brooms in the local markets.
