Pakistan’s star cricketer Babar Azam has announced his resignation from the captaincy of all formats. Babar Azam issued a statement on Wednesday, November 15 and informed about his resignation.
Babar’s fans and cricket lovers are surprised by his leaving the captaincy. This was expected considering Pakistan’s poor performance in the World Cup. However, he has not mentioned any specific reason in his note.
What did Babar write in his resignation post?
Babar Azam informed about leaving the captaincy on social media platform X. In his note, he wrote, “I remember well the moment when I got the call from the PCB to lead Pakistan in 2019. In the last four years, I have seen many ups and downs on and off the field, but I Tried with all my heart and passion to maintain the pride and honor of Pakistan in the world of cricket.”
Reaching No. 1 in the white-ball format was the result of the collective efforts of the players, coaches and management, but I would like to express my gratitude to the Pakistan cricket fans for their unwavering support during this journey.
Referring to his resignation, he wrote, “Today, I am stepping down as the captain of Pakistan in all formats. This is a difficult decision but I feel this is the right time for this call. I am stepping down as the captain of Pakistan in all three formats. I will continue to represent Pakistan as a player.”
He said that I am ready to support the new captain and the team with my experience and dedication.
Pakistan’s poor performance in the World Cup
Let us tell you that the performance of Pakistan team was very poor in the World Cup 2023. The team could win only 4 out of 9 matches. Babar scored 230 runs in this World Cup and remained third in the list of batsmen who scored the most runs for Pakistan. His average was 40 and strike rate was 82.90. Babar Azam was the number 1 batsman in ODI for a long time, but recently Shubman Gill replaced him at the first position.
Before Babar, Morne Morkel had also resigned from the post of bowling coach of Pakistan team. He joined the Pakistan team in June this year.
Babar got the captaincy of Pakistan after Sarfaraz Ahmed. Including all three formats, he captained Pakistan in a total of 133 matches, in which there were 78 wins and 43 losses. The winning percentage was 64.34%.
