Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has started taking strict action against those who stop the train doors from closing. According to PTI report, DMRC has lodged a complaint with the police in one such case, in which due to a passenger obstructing the door, the door got damaged and the train got delayed.
Delhi Metro has said that preventing a train door from closing can lead to jail or fine, or both jail and fine.
4 years jail, 5 thousand fine
DMRC officials say that action can be taken against the accused under Section 67 of the Delhi Metro Railway (Operation and Maintenance) Act, 2002. According to this Act, if any person tries to disrupt the operation of a metro train, he can be punished with imprisonment up to 4 years or a fine of Rs 5,000 or both.

DMRC’s strictness has been seen after two-three recent incidents. These incidents took place at Indralok Metro Station, New Ashoknagar Metro Station. An FIR has been lodged in Gurugram on a complaint related to obstructing the closing of gates on the Yellow Line.
- The first incident took place on December 14, when a woman passenger’s saree got stuck in the metro door at Indralok metro station, due to which she was seriously injured. Later he died during treatment in the hospital. In this incident, the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi had summoned Delhi Metro. The family of the female passenger had demanded action and compensation. Delhi Metro has said to give Rs 15 lakh.
- The second incident took place on December 27, when a passenger stopped the train gate from closing at New Ashoknagar Metro Station. By doing this the door of the metro train got damaged and the train also got late. DMRC lodged an FIR in this matter at Yamuna Depot Metro Police Station. Police say that ‘CCTV footage is being investigated. Police is investigating to identify the accused passenger and take action.

In recent times, incidents of reel making have also increased in Delhi Metro. Six months ago, a video of two youths had gone viral in which they were repeatedly getting their feet stuck in the metro door, due to which the door was not being closed. Section 67 of Delhi Metro Operation and Maintenance will be applicable in such cases also.
According to officials, the same provisions will be applicable if anyone obstructs the operation of metro trains in any way and action will be taken against them.
‘Priority is passenger safety’
Referring to the incident at New Ashok Nagar metro station, a Delhi Metro official said, ‘We want to ensure the safety of our passengers. If anyone resorts to such activity which compromises the operation of the train or the safety of passengers, we will take measures.
