The rupee gained eight paise at 83.29 against the US dollar in early trade on Friday. The Indian currency got strengthened due to continued inflow of foreign funds and softening of crude oil prices.
The rupee opened at 83.29 against the dollar in the interbank foreign exchange market. Then it reached a high level of 83.25. After this, it stood at 83.29 against the American currency, which is an increase of eight paise from the previous closing price.
The rupee had closed at 83.37 against the US dollar on Thursday. Meanwhile, the dollar index, which reflects the position of the US dollar against six major currencies of the world, fell by 0.09 percent at 103.41.
Global oil benchmark Brent crude was trading 0.47 percent lower at $80.48 per barrel. According to stock market data, foreign institutional investors (FIIs) bought shares worth Rs 8,147.85 crore on Thursday.
