The government has today launched the portal for the purchase of tur dal (tur dal procurement portal). Cooperation Minister Amit Shah launched this portal in the national seminar organized on the topic ‘Self-reliance in pulses’. This portal will not only provide the producers of tur dal a fair price for their crop but will also provide the dal to the consumers at a cheaper price.
Dependence on import of pulses will reduce
On this portal, producers will be able to register themselves to sell their commodities and after selling their products, they will be able to take the amount directly into their bank account. This portal has been prepared by the National Consumer Cooperative Federation of India (NCCF) and the National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India (NAFED). At present the government purchases pulses or other commodities through these two agencies. The objective of this portal is to reduce dependence on imports by purchasing 80% of the buffer stock directly from farmers. The government says that this will not only secure food production but will also ensure the future food security of the country.
The country will be self-reliant on pulses by 2027: Amit Shah
On this occasion, Cooperative Minister Amit Shah said that the country is not self-reliant in the field of pulses today, importing pulses is not a respectable thing for us. But I want to assure you that with the cooperation of farmer brothers, India will be self-reliant in the field of pulses production before December 2027, and will not have to import even 1 kg of pulses.
What will be the benefit of this?
In fact, most of the farmers who cultivate pulses do not go to the market and sell their produce, instead they deal with middlemen at throwaway prices, which are much lower than the MSP. The government wants to strengthen the position of tur dal farmers with this initiative, this will boost the production of domestic pulses and also reduce the dependence on imports.
- After the launch of this portal, buyers will come to this portal and buy pulses from farmers at a price at least Re 1 above the MSP, and NAFED and NCCF will be responsible for ensuring this. This will increase the income of farmers.
- The aim of the government is to eliminate middlemen from the system. Because they buy pulses from farmers at a lower price and sell them in the market at many times the price, which becomes even more expensive by the time it reaches the customers.
- With the elimination of middlemen, not only the farmers but also the common consumer will benefit, because he will not have to pay unnecessarily increased prices for pulses. This will be a big relief for common consumers on the inflation front.
- The government will also benefit from the elimination of middlemen, because the government will have adequate buffer of pulses. The government aims to reduce dependence on imports by purchasing 80% of the buffer stock, which will ensure the food security of the country.
Registration and payment are very easy
This portal will be in multiple languages, this portal will simplify and streamline the entire process for tur dal growers in Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Gujarat, Karnataka and Jharkhand, making the process of registration, purchase and payment very simple.
Farmers can register on the portal directly or through Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS) and Farmers Producers Organization (FPO). The payment will be made by NAFED into their given bank account and no agency will be involved in it. The Ministry of Cooperation said that ‘the entire process is farmer centric in which farmers themselves can track the activities from registration to payment’.
