A 40-year-old employee of IT company HCL Tech died of cardiac arrest in Nagpur, Maharashtra. According to the police, the employee has been identified as Nitin Edwin Michael, a senior analyst at HCL Technologies.
The incident happened on Friday when the employee went to the washroom. An official of the Sonegaon police station said that Nitin went to the bathroom of the company’s office located in MIHAN area here at 7 pm on Friday, but after that he was found unconscious there.
He told that Nikhil’s colleagues took him to All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Nagpur where the doctor declared him dead.
Earlier, Ana Sebastian had died in EY, for which workload was cited as the reason. Similarly, some colleagues of HDFC Bank also cited workload as the reason behind the death of an employee. However, both companies have been denying these allegations.
Under what circumstances did the death occur?
The Sonegaon police sent the body for post-mortem and registered a case of accidental death. The officer said that the initial post-mortem report revealed that Nikhil died of cardiac arrest. The police is investigating the circumstances under which Nikhil died. According to the police, Nikhil’s family includes his wife and a six-year-old son.
What did the company say?
Describing Nitin’s death as an unfortunate incident, the company said that he was given emergency health service at the clinic located on the campus and then taken to the hospital. His demise is a sad loss for the company.
A company spokesperson said, “HCL Tech provides all possible support to the employee’s family. The well-being of our employees is our top priority.”
This is the third such incident after EY and HDFC. On July 20, EY employee Ana Sebastian died. Her mother Anita Augustine had cited a toxic work culture as the reason behind Ana’s death. A few days ago, HDFC Bank’s Additional Deputy VP Sadaf Fatima died suddenly in Lucknow. Sadaf, who was sitting on a chair, suddenly fell and died instantly.
