Eight people died in a horrific road accident near Ghatgaon in Keonjhar district of Odisha. While seven are said to be seriously injured. The incident occurred on National Highway No. 20 near Balijodi village on Friday (December 1) morning.

According to the information, a truck was parked on NH-20, during which a van came from behind and collided with the truck, due to which at least eight people in the van died. It is being told that all the deceased belonged to two families of Digapahandi of Ganjam.

According to reports, the accident occurred when 20 people from Podamari village were traveling in a van to Maa Tarini temple in the district. Seven people died on the spot, while another died during treatment at Ghatgaon hospital. Initially, the injured were taken to Ghatgaon Hospital, but were later transferred to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.
On receiving the information, Balijodi police reached the spot and took the injured to the nearest health center, while the bodies were sent for post-mortem. Police have started investigating the accident.
Although the exact cause of the accident is not yet known, it is feared that the van driver could not see the truck parked on the roadside.
