Iran’s Revolutionary Guards fired several missiles in the Kurdistan region of Iraq. Iranian state media informed that IRGC i.e. Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps has carried out several missile attacks in the Autonomous Kurdistan region of Syria and Iraq. These attacks were carried out by targeting the headquarters of Israel’s intelligence agency Mossad and the bases of anti-Iran organizations. According to Iraq’s Kurdistan Security Council, four people were killed and six others were injured in the attack.
The Kurdistan Democratic Party said that Peshtra Dizayi, a prominent businessman, was among the many civilians killed.
IRGC also targeted Syria with ballistic missiles. This attack specifically included key hideouts of commanders of the Islamic State group.
Response to the attack on the death anniversary of General Suleimani
Iran said the attack on Syria is a response to the recent attack on the death anniversary of General Qasim Suleimani. Let us tell you, on January 3, a suicide attack took place in Kerman on the people who had gathered to pay tribute to General Qasim Suleimani on his death anniversary. In which about 90 people died and hundreds were injured. Islamic State had taken responsibility for this attack.
In December, there was also an attack in Rusk. In which a police station was targeted. At least 11 Iranian police officers were killed in this attack. Jihadi group Jaish al-Adl had claimed responsibility for this. This organization was formed in 2012 and has been blacklisted by Iran by declaring it a “terrorist” group.
Attack on Israeli intelligence agency Mossad
The IRGC also said it attacked an alleged Israeli “spy headquarters” in Iraq’s autonomous Kurdistan region, Iran’s IRNA news agency reported. Taking the name of Israel’s Mossad spy organization, it said that Mossad is helping in developing espionage operations and planning terrorist actions in this region.
Regional tensions have been heightened by the war between Israel and the Palestinian militant group Hamas, which has included Iran-backed armed groups in Lebanon, Iraq, Syria and Yemen.
On December 25, Iran said that an Israeli strike killed senior Guard commander Razi Mousavi. And on January 8, Israel killed Wissam Hassan Tawil, a top commander of the Iran-backed Hezbollah group in Lebanon.
A few days ago, Saleh al-Arouri, a senior leader of Hamas, which was supported by Iran, was killed in an Israeli missile attack on Beirut.
