Ceasefire extended for 2 more days, exchange of hostages and prisoners
A four-day ceasefire was announced between Israel and Hamas on Friday, November 24. This was the first time in the war that had been going on for almost two months that both sides agreed to a ceasefire. Now, just before the ceasefire deadline ends on Monday, 27 November, it has been extended by 2 days.
Announcing this, Qatar said that both sides have agreed to extend the ceasefire. Let us tell you that Qatar itself is working as a mediator between the two.
After the ceasefire extended, Hamas has released 11 more hostages. This also includes 3 year old twins. On the other hand, Israel released 33 Palestinian citizens from its jails. This includes 30 children and 3 women. Hamas has expressed hope that it can release 20 more women and children in the next two days.
Increase in supply of humanitarian relief material
Overall, so far, 39 Israeli hostages have been freed from Gaza under the four-day ceasefire and Israel has released 117 Palestinian prisoners from its jails.
After the ceasefire, the supply of humanitarian relief material to Gaza has also increased. Hundreds of trucks carrying essential goods are entering Gaza. However, there is uncertainty among the people as to what will happen after the ceasefire ends, hence people are trying to collect as much essential goods as possible.
Amidst the ceasefire, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said that after the end of the ceasefire, we will resume our operations in Gaza with full force.
Hamas attacks on October 7 killed 1,200 people and took about 240 hostages in Israel. Since then, more than 14,500 people have been killed in Israeli retaliatory attacks, according to Gaza’s Hamas-run health ministry.
