The temporary ceasefire between Israel and Hamas (Israel-Hamas Ceasefire) came into effect on Friday morning. Qatar has confirmed a halt in fighting between the two countries for 4 days from 7 am.
At 4 pm, Hamas will release 50 captured women and children. In return Israel will also release 150 Palestinians.
This week itself, a temporary ceasefire was agreed upon between Hamas and Israel. This consensus was reached through the efforts of Qatar, Egypt and America, who mediated the entire negotiation.
Let us tell you that this agreement was expected to come into effect on Thursday morning. But the ceasefire came into effect only after a day. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has expressed hope to release all 240 Israeli prisoners from the clutches of Hamas.
What’s the deal?
Under the deal, Hamas will release Israeli women and children in the first stage. The Israeli Prime Minister’s office said that in the second stage, there will be a one-day ceasefire for every 10 additional prisoners.
According to the statement from the PM Office, ‘The Israeli government, IDF and security services will continue the fight to bring back all prisoners and completely eliminate Hamas. We will ensure that Israel does not face any further threat from Gaza.
Hamas said in the statement, ‘After several days of complex negotiations, we have agreed to a four-day humanitarian ceasefire, which includes the tireless efforts of Qatar and Egypt.’
According to Hamas, the deal includes:
- Entry of hundreds of trucks carrying medical, fuel and supplies into North and South Gaza Strip
- Air traffic will be stopped in South Gaza for four days
- Air traffic will be stopped in North Gaza for 6 hours every day
- During the ceasefire, Israel has agreed not to target anyone and not to arrest anyone in all areas of the Gaza Strip.
