Police are still searching for an accused in the case of alleged gang rape of a 20-year-old Dalit woman in Rajasthan. Police have registered a case against two people in this matter. Officials said that the search is on for an accused in the case, who is currently absconding.
The incident happened on the night of 9 December
On Saturday, the investigating officer of the case, ACP Phoolchand Meena, said, “We have arrested one person, who has been identified as Arif, while the other accused Lalit is absconding. Efforts are going on to catch him. The incident occurred on the intervening night of December 9-10, when the woman had boarded a bus from Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh and was going to Jaipur to meet her relative.”
Both the accused had told the woman that since the seats in the bus were full, she could sleep on a seat inside the driver’s cabin. Prima facie it appears that both the accused raped her one by one. As soon as one of the two committed the crime, the other drove away. After some time, a passenger went to the driver’s cabin and asked the driver to stop the bus for a toilet break. At this very moment he saw the woman and suspected her of being raped.

Angry passengers assaulted the drivers, after which one of the accused managed to escape. One of the passengers on the bus, who is also a driver by profession, drove the bus to Jaipur.”
Search for second accused continues
The officer further said, “When we came to know that such an incident had happened, we arrested one of the accused, Arif. We are searching for the absconding second accused Lalit.”
Under which sections was the FIR registered?
Meena said that on December 10, IPC sections 376D (gang rape) and SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities Act) were registered against both of them. FIR was registered under relevant sections.
