People with knowledge of the matter have told NDTV that an ultimatum has been issued to the employees on sick leave to return to duty as per the roster by 4 pm today.
The airline has warned that if the crew members do not return to duty as per their fixed roster, the management will take action against them. Before this, on May 8, 2024, Air India Express, taking strict action, has handed over termination letters to 30 crew members, telling them that their services are terminated with immediate effect.
On Tuesday, about 300 crew members suddenly went on leave citing illness and switched off their stations. After this, more than 80 flights of Air India Express had to be cancelled, even today about 76 flights of Air India Express are cancelled. Both the management and passengers of Air India Express are struggling with this sudden difficulty. About 15,000 passengers have suffered due to flight cancellations and flight delays.

Air India Express has informed the passengers about today’s situation, and has told that Air India has extended a helping hand to them. A statement issued by the airline spokesperson said that ‘Air India Express is making every possible effort to minimize the inconvenience caused to our passengers due to this situation. We will operate 292 flights today.
The statement further said that ‘We have mobilized all the resources and Air India will help us by providing its flights on our 20 routes. However, 74 of our flights have been canceled and we request our passengers to check if their flight is affected before arriving at the airport.
