In the case of water shortage in Delhi, the Supreme Court has issued instructions to the Himachal Pradesh and Haryana governments. The court has ordered Himachal Pradesh to release 137 cusecs of additional water every day from Friday.
There was a dispute between the Delhi government and Haryana over water. The Delhi government was constantly accusing the government of giving less water, after which it approached the court.
On May 31, the Delhi government went to the Supreme Court over the dispute of less water supply during the scorching heat of May and June.
The Delhi government appealed to the Supreme Court that the Haryana government has forced it to meet the water shortage. Delhi is short of water and Himachal Pradesh has water in surplus.
The Aam Aadmi Party government also said that the Himachal Pradesh government has also approved giving this surplus water, but the water should be transferred through Wazirabad Barrage, which comes under the Haryana government.
Supreme Court’s decision
The Supreme Court directed the Haryana government to not do politics and to supply 137 cusecs of water to the Delhi government. The Supreme Court said that there should not be any shortage of water.
