Surat Diamond Bourse, a magnificent building for diamond traders in Surat, famous for diamond trade. (SDB) is completely ready. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate this building on Sunday (December 17).
SDB media coordinator Dinesh Navadiya told PTI that Prime Minister Modi will address the people after the inauguration. He said that even before the inauguration, diamond traders from many cities including Mumbai have opened their offices. The management had allotted space to these businessmen after the office auction.
Bigger than the pentagon house
It has been prepared on 35.54 acres of land as part of the Diamond Research and Mercantile (Dream) City in Khajod village of Surat city in the Prime Minister’s home state Gujarat.
According to PTI report, Surat Diamond Bourse is bigger than America’s Pentagon House and is the largest residential building in the world. It has been constructed on approximately 67 lakh square feet. In comparison, the area of Pentagon House is 62 lakh square feet.
What are the special features of this building?
- Surat Diamond Bourse is a 15-storey building and has 9 towers.
- Diamond Bourse is the world’s largest interconnected building.
- There are approximately 4500 diamond trading offices in SDB building.
- Surat Diamond Bourse will become the hub of polished diamonds.
- Traders from about 175 countries will arrive to trade diamonds.
- This trade facility will provide employment to about 1.5 lakh people.
- This will prove to be a kind of global platform for doing business in Surat.
The Prime Minister had told about a big achievement
PM Modi had posted about this building on his X account a few months ago that SDB will give impetus to the country’s economy. He had said, ‘Surat Diamond Bourse has overtaken the Pentagon as the world’s largest office building for the last 80 years.’
He further wrote, ‘Surat Diamond Bourse reflects the dynamism and growth of Surat’s diamond industry. This is also a proof of the entrepreneurial spirit of the country. This building will serve as a center of trade, innovation and cooperation. This building will boost our economy and create employment opportunities.
Surat airport building also inaugurated
Prime Minister Modi will also inaugurate the newly upgraded terminal building of Surat Airport on Sunday itself. Surat Airport was recognized as an international airport by the Union Cabinet on Friday itself. PM Modi has also shared a post of Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia on X in this regard.
Let us tell you that former Chief Minister of Gujarat Anandiben Patel had laid the foundation stone of SDB and Dream City Project in February 2015.
