Who were the hostages killed?
The Israeli military identified the three hostages killed as Yotam Haim and Alon Shamriz, who were taken from the Kfar Aza kibbutz during Hamas’ October 7 attack, and Samir al-Talalka, who was taken from the Nir Am kibbutz.
Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari, the army’s chief spokesman, said The soldiers mistook the three Israelis for a threat and opened fire on them. It is not known whether they were released or how they were separated from their captors. Hagari expressed deep sorrow about this.
Israel’s Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, said in a statement, “With the entire people of Israel, I bow my head in deep sorrow and mourn the death of our three beloved sons who were abducted. My heart goes out to the bereaved families in this difficult time.”
Earlier on Friday, the IDF recovered the bodies of three other hostages in Gaza. Among them were the bodies of 28-year-old Elya Toledano, a French-Israeli citizen, and two soldiers, Nick Beijer and Ron Sherman.
