There has been a shock on the inflation front in December, after retail inflation, now wholesale inflation has also reached a 9-month high in December.
According to the latest data released by the Commerce Ministry on Monday, the wholesale inflation rate (WPI) in December was 0.73%, which was 0.26% in November.
After being negative for seven consecutive months, the wholesale inflation rate became positive (0.26%) for the first time in November. Food inflation was 5.39% in December, which was 4.69% in November. Similarly, wholesale inflation of primary articles has increased from 4.76% to 5.78% in December.

Retail inflation also at 4 month high
Before this, retail inflation had also increased in December. Which has been at 5.69%, which is the highest level in 4 months. This rise in inflation has come due to the rise in the prices of vegetables. Inflation of vegetables has increased from 17.7% in November to 27.64% in December.
Retail inflation was recorded at 5.55% in November, while it was 4.87% in October. Whereas in September it was 5.02%. In August it was 6.83%.
The Commerce Ministry says that an increase in wholesale inflation is being seen in December 2023, especially due to the increase in prices of food articles, machinery and equipment, manufacturing, transport equipment and computer, electronics and optical products.
